Within Susan Collis practice, everyday objects and surfaces are presented splattered and stained with the marks of wear and tear, and the viewer might, upon further investigation, realise that the timeworn flecks of paint that cover an old broom, are in fact delicate and precisely inlaid pearls, jasper, turquoise, garnets and black diamonds. Initially, the demarcations seem to be the secondary results of a primary activity, seemingly worthless and easily ignored. The essence of Gabo’s art was the exploration of space which he believed could be done without having to depict mass. His earliest constructions such as Head No.2 were formal experiments in depicting the volume of a figure without carrying its mass. Gabo’s other concern as described in the Realist Manifesto was that art needed to exist actively in four dimensions including time.

Gabo’s formative years were in Munich, where he was inspired by and actively participated in the artistic, scientific, and philosophical debates of the early years of the 20th century. → continue reading…

Frau Fiber hosts free weekly workshops where she shares her knowledge of the garment industry, pattern making, and sewing, encouraging the reuse, renovation and recycling of existing garments and textiles in the creation of unique garments tailored to individual tastes and body shapes.
